General
This competition is AHA sanctioned and open to any amateur homebrewer age 21 or older who is a member of any homebrew club in West Virginia.
All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers (i.e., no use of commercial facilities or Brew on Premises operations, supplies, etc.).
Entrants choosing to attend the event may hand carry their entries to the competition.
All mailed entries must be received at the mailing location by the shipping deadline June 7, 2025. Please allow for shipping time.
The competition organizers are not responsible for mis-categorized entries, mailed entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrive damaged.
Track your shipped entries. If entries are lost or damaged, notify the Competition Coordinator. We will allow re-shipment after the due date if time permits.
All entries will be picked up from local drop-off locations the day of the drop-off deadline (June 7th). See competition website for a full list of drop off locations.
Entry Guidelines
Each individual entry should be submitted as two bottles, without distinguishing marks on bottle, or bottle cap.
Preferred entry size is 12-16oz, caps with markings can be blacked out with a sharpie.
Entries must be accompanied by a completed Bottle ID Form attached by a rubber band. Enclosing the form in a plastic bag and using two elastic bands is recommended.
Unconsumed entries will not be returned to entrants. Any remaining bottles not used for judging may be available to taste or take home for in-person attendees following the competition.
Brewers are not limited to one entry in each category but may only enter each subcategory once. A maximum of two entries per brewer are permitted.
Entries will be accepted on the competition site through June 7, 2025.
Competition Categories, Judging and Awards Process
Qualified judging of all entries is the primary goal of our event. Judges will evaluate and score each entry. The consensus scores will rank each entry in its category. Each flight will have at least one BJCP judge. The standard BJCP scoresheet will be used. The competition committee reserves the right to combine overall style categories into “Tables” based on the number of entries for judging and award purposes. All possible efforts will be made to combine similar styles. All entries in combined categories will be judged according to their stated style. Please be sure to complete all necessary entry details in the “information” field as needed for each entry. Failure to include all entry information requested may negatively impact your entry’s score and place. The Best of Show judging will be determined by a Best of Show panel based on a second judging round of the “Table” winners. Medals will be presented during the awards ceremony immediately following the competition. For non-local homebrew clubs with multiple winners, please make every attempt to have one club member act as a collection point for medals. Winners not attending the competition will be contacted by competition organizers to coordinate shipping for medals.
Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be awarded in each judging category, and a separate Gold medal will be awarded to the beer judged as Best in Show. Other awards may also be distributed in addition to those described above at the discretion of the competition organizers.Shipping/Drop Off Instructions
